Purchase Order Format and Free PO Generator
A purchase order (PO) is the buyer's written order to a vendor, setting out what is being bought, at what price and when it must be delivered. It prevents disputes and makes it easy to match the vendor's bill when it arrives.

What to include in a purchase order
- Your business name, address and GSTIN (the buyer)
- The vendor's name, address and GSTIN
- PO number, order date and expected delivery date
- Delivery address, if different from your billing address
- Items with description, HSN/SAC, quantity, rate, discount and GST
- Total value, payment terms and any other conditions
Purchase order vs invoice
The buyer issues a purchase order before the purchase; the seller issues the invoice after supplying. A PO is not a GST document and carries no tax liability, but matching it to the vendor's invoice helps you check quantities and prices before you pay and claim Input Tax Credit.
